Abstract

Inter carrier interference (ICI) is one of the crucial issues with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Its occurrence is attributed to the offset in carrier frequency (CFO), originated due to drift in local oscillator frequency, channel distortion and Doppler spread. ICI degrades the system performance because it destroys the orthogonality among the subcarriers. In this paper we have proposed a modified version of the already existing improved sinc power pulse (ISP) for minimizing the ICI power in OFDM system. The suggested pulse is compared with the existing improved sinc power pulse with respect to three performance metrics i.e ICI power, signal to interference ratio (SIR) and bit error rate (BER). From the Simulation results, we noticed that the suggested modified improved sinc power pulse (MISP) provides approximately 3 dB improvement in ICI power, 2 dB improvement in SIR at the normalized frequency offset of 0.2 compared to ISP and with respect to BER, proposed pulse provides an improvement of 0.12as compared to ISP pulse at SNR of 10 db.
