Abstract
Abstract The modelling of non-zero initial conditions in SAP2000 when considering free vibrations is not a standard operation. The current paper proposes a simple method of initial condition modelling in SAP2000 when said vibrations are considered. The basic principle of impulse of a particle is used as a reference in the theoretical background. The method is illustrated by a simple single degree of freedom problem that is solved both analytically and numerically in SAP2000. Results are compared. The method is applied to a multi-degree of freedom problem as well. The multi-degree of freedom problem is undamped. Conclusions are made.
