Abstract

Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) is a rapid and efficient extraction technique for high-value and bioactive compounds present in biological materials. Some variations of the MAE process are microwave-assisted solvent extraction, microwave-assisted solvent-free extraction, microwave hydrodistillation, microwave hydrodiffusion and gravity, and ionic-liquid-based microwave assisted extraction, in some cases combined with vacuum and addition of enzymes.
