Meta analysis on the treatment of radiation-induced encephalopathy with hyperbaric oxygen combined with drug treatment

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect and value of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with drugs in the treatment of radiation-induced encephalopathy through Meta analysis. Methods Literature retrieval was made through the access of Pubmed,CBMdic databases and proceedings to retrieve related medical documents on radiation-induced encephalopathy. The therapeutic group was the group using the treatment profile of HBO therapy combined with drug treatment,and the control group was the simple drug treatment group with randomized controlled trial (RCT). Meta analysis was made by using Review Manager 4.2 to analyze therapeutic effects of HBO combined with drug treatment.Results Four randomized controlled trials confirming to standards were selected from 262 papers,involving 275 patients. Results indicated that the effective rate of treatment with HBO combined with drugs was 5 times higher than that of simple drug treatment (OR=5.35,95％CI=2.87 -10.01,P＜0.01).Conclusions HBO combined with drug treatment could be used to treat radiation - induced encephalopathy,with an obvious increase in therapeutic effects and life quality improvement of patients.Results indicated that this combined treatment could be used as a first-line method for the treatment of radiation - induced encephalopathy,and it deserved further clinical trial.
