Abstract
The article deals with Sergio Rezende's film Guerra de Canudos (Canudos War), which has as its main protagonists Jose Wilker (Antonio Conselheiro), Paulo Betti (Ze Lucena), Marieta Severo (Penha) and Claudia Abreu (Luisa). It emphasizes the importance of a great production for national cinema, most especially dealing with a historical theme of the complexity of Canudos. It criticizes the fragility of the narrative plan dedicated to the love triangle that is lived, in the battlefield, by Luisa, private Arimateia (Tuca Andrada) and the lieutenant (Selton Mello). But, the author stresses the film as an opportunity to think about Brazilian history and culture.
