Abstract

This paper focuses on the analysis of “Muido-ga” and “Gosan-gugok-ga”. The two works are analyzed in detail to highlight the distinctive achievements of “Gosan-gugok-ga”. The analysis of the works is based on the criteria of space, time, relationships between characters, and the actions of the characters. While “Muido-ga” portrays an isolated and mystical space, “Gosan-gugok-ga” represents spaces of daily life and hospitality towards friends. While the time in “Muido-ga” is situated between a distant legendary time and an unperceivable current time, “Gosan-gugok-ga” demonstrates the specific flow of seasonal and daily time. While characters are scarcely revealed in “Muido-ga” with minimal interaction with others, “Gosan-gugok-ga” depicts rich interactions with friends and expresses the desire to invite outsiders who are unfamiliar with the place. In conclusion, “Gosan-gugok-ga” transcends a mere song about nature. It encompasses the depth and beauty of a scholar's song that sings about the joy of academic pursuit and the desire of a mentor to disseminate knowledge.
