Abstract

This chapter describes the molecule “lymphotactin” and its other names are ATAC, SCM-1α. Lptn is a chemokinetic and chemoattractant factor for T cells and NK cells. It is the prototype of the C or gamma class of chemokines, which have a single disulfide bond in the mature protein. The crossreactivity, sources, and bioassays are presented. The physiochemical properties of Lptn are summarized in a table for human and mouse and the 3-D structure is not available. The gene structure is described and the amino acid sequence for human Lptn (Accession code: SwissProt P47992) and mouse Lptn (Accession code: SwissProt P47993) is provided. The structure of Lptn receptor, XCR1 is illustrated schematically and the distribution is indicated. The physiochemical properties of the Lptn receptors are given in a table for humans and mouse forms. The signal transduction and the chromosomal location are provided. The amino acid sequence for human Lptn receptor (Accession code: SwissProt P46094) are presented. The chapter concludes with a list of references for further resources.
