Abstract
This collection of articles firstly aims at generating thoughts regarding the relevance of the terminology and classifications used to describe gathered settlements in the Roman period. The recapitulation of ail available data brings forward the small size of secondary towns around Vienne and the limited number of typically urban monuments. However, in a mountain environment where erosion and accumulation phenomena are particularly significant, the increase in prospecting and better acknowledgement of environmental évolution enable to update a dossier that is constantly evolving.
