Abstract

The documentary research study examined the contribution of leadership styles on training in the police service in Sharjah in United Arab Emirates (UAE) . The research study employed an explanatory and descriptive research design with qualitative paradigm. A sample of 104 documents were selected from 10000 list of documentation purposively. Data was garnered using documentary reviews and scrutinised using content analysis which was used for summarising qualitative information. The study findings established that there was a strong contribution of the type of leadership style chosen to training in the police service in Sharjah in UAE. The study concluded that the type of leadership style selected can easily determine the success of service provision in Sharjah police service in UAE. It was discovered that autocratic leadership style is most commonly used in the police service in UAE and it helps the police force to have control over the whole organisation. If the police officers are well trained, they can be able to contribute to the peace and harmony in the UAE. The population can use the peace ushered in by the police service for development to blossom. From the study findings, the researcher recommended that the political leadership of Sharjah should invest a lot of money in the training of police personnel for the acquisition of knowledge and skills for better dispensation of services to the citinery. The government of UAE should augment on the budget meant to train the police manpower for maintence of peace and order in the country. This can also make sure that there is sanity in the whole country at large.
