Abstract
“JEDI” is an acronym that many organizations use to describe programs and practices related to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. However, the term “Jedi” also elicits thoughts about the warriors on the light side of peace and justice in the mystical and fictional Star War series. This essay takes some artistic license in applying lessons learned from Star Wars’ Jedi to address the challenges that kinesiology faces regarding JEDI in the future. The role of symbolic kinesiology leadership in promoting and sustaining JEDI for the future is discussed. In accordance with the idioms of Star Wars, this essay posits organizational cultures as kinesiology’s metaphorical JEDI Force and organizational justice as kinesiology’s metaphorical JEDI weapon, the lightsaber. In so doing, this essay offers suggestions by which kinesiology must maintain a focus on JEDI in the future, despite the sociopolitical attacks that it may receive and the various forms of resistance that it my experience.
