Abstract
Juma'at sermons (khutba) in Nigeria are of paramount importance to all the aspects of people's life in the country. This is because, in recent times, most of the scholars that give the sermon talk on various critical issues that directly affect the lives of people which have also been the concern of the government as well. These issues include among others security, peace, youth employment/unemployment, economic development among others. Thus, Juma'at sermons are of great relevance to the interests of Nigerian state towards its citizens. It is based on this, this research is meant to study the importance Juma'at sermons in enlighting the general public on various socio-political realities around them, with Gombe Metropolis as its study area. The research gathers it data from primary sources, through, questionnaire, interview and direct contact with the written sermons of the selected Imams within Gombe Metropolis. The research which is arranged into three sections realized that Jumaat Sermons play a tremendous role in enlighten the general public on various socio-economic and political issues connected to their societies.
