Is open-edi a potential area for use of MSC and SDL?

Abstract

This chapter presents the new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) International standard IS 14662, entitled “The open-edi reference model.” The areas of Open-edi that require formal descriptive techniques are identified in the chapter. The chapter identifies some requirements on the formal descriptive techniques for open-edi and the potential benefits that the message sequence chart (MSC) and Specification and Description Language (SDL) community could get. The information helps the community to decide whether they have an interest in this work, and whether they want to make the EDI community aware of the potential interest of the MSC and SDL environment for Open-edi. This international standard specifies the framework for the integration of existing standards and the development of future standards for the interworking of organizations via Open-edi. The concepts of open-edi scenario and open-edi transaction are the basis of this standard.
