Abstract

1. 1. The RNA-binding proteins were prepared from the postribosomal supernatant fraction of rat liver cells. No selective recognition of homologous RNA by these proteins themselves was observed. 2. 2. The ability of ribosomes to recognize the homologous RNA was restored by association of these proteins with the particles which had lost their RNA-binding ability by treatment with 1 M KCl. 3. 3. The results obtained here suggest the presence in the postribosomal supernatant fraction of the proteins responsible for recognizing a particular species of RNA. 4. 4. The biological significance of these proteins was discussed.
