Abstract

Rahayu EMD. 2015. Conservation of moth orchids (Phalaenopsis spp.) in Center for Plant Conservation Botanic Gardens- LIPI, Bogor. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1847-1850. Center for Plant Conservation Botanic Gardens-LIPI (PKT KR-LIPI) is also known as Bogor Botanic Gardens. Situated in the center of Bogor, PKT KR-LIPI is an institution dedicated to plant conservation. PKT KR-LIPI also served as the city's breathing space and water reservoir. The most important function of PKT KR-LIPI is ex situ conservation of flora. This paper explains the conservation of moth orchids (Phalaenopsis spp.) in PKT KR-LIPI through, both ex vitro and in vitro as well as its utilization. There are 64 species of moth orchids in the world with the highest diversity found in the Philippines (21 species) and followed by Borneo (16 species). Indonesia has 25 species of moth orchids and ten among those are endemic. PKT KR-LIPI has conserved 15 species of moth orchids, that means has been conserving 23.44% of moth orchids in the world, 60% of moth orchids in Indonesia, and 30% of Indonesia’s endemic moth orchids.
