Abstract

In this paper symmetric and asymmetric laminates having same stiffness matrices were fabricated. These laminates were doped with varying weight percentage (wt%) of MWCNTs to improve impact resistance of laminates. The effect of MWCNTs doping on laminates having different stacking sequence were analyzed by comparing effect of MWCNTs on symmetric and asymmetric laminates of GFRP. Impact analysis was conducted at impact energy of 94.14 J, corresponding to impact velocity of 6 m/sec. In both symmetric and asymmetric laminate, impact resistance increases on doping 2 wt% of MWCNTs and decreases on doping 5 wt% MWCNTs. The proposed symmetric and asymmetric GFRP laminates with and without MWCNTs have higher impact resistance in comparison with laminates proposed and impacted under similar condition by other research work.
