Abstract

Few contrastive studies have been conducted on the distinction between intransitive verbs and transitive verbs in the Vietnamese language. To void this research gap, this study aims to clarify the characteristics of intransitive verbs and transitive verbs in the Vietnamese language as well as criteria to distinguish them apart. On that basis, it sheds light on the similarities and differences in semantic, morphological and syntactic characteristics of intransitive verbs and transitive verbs in Japanese and Vietnamese.
