Abstract

July 3—There was a sudden commencement at 00h 40m GMT, July 3, when in two minutes H increased 25 gammas, Z increased 4 gammas, and D was not affected. Moderate disturbances with a number of large fluctuations in H continued until 21h.July 4–5—There was a sudden commencement at 14h 08m GMT, July 4, when in four minutes D moved easterly 1′.8, H increased 83 gammas, and Z increased 3 gammas. A magnetic storm followed which continued until 20h, July 5, the last six hours being violently disturbed. A large number of fluctuations in H of large amplitude were recorded. Ranges: D, 12′; H, 304 gammas; Z, 17 gammas.
