Abstract
The article defines the area of Jeseníky Mountains, which was created to publish an overview of all known and available meteorological stations in this area to create climatological characteristics for an overview of recorded weather extremes and climate projections until the year 2100. The defined area of the Jeseníky Mountains includes the area of Hrubý Jeseník Mountains, part of Nízký Jeseník Mountains, the Rychleby Mountains, the Králický Sněžník massif and the area of Vidnavsko and Javornicko in the northern part, which is influenced by the leeward side of the Rychleby Mountains. It is primarily based on geomorphological units. The entire area is a compact mountain range, very attractive for tourists. The paper provides a brief historical overview of the development of this area and the most significant events having a major impact on this region. Knowledge of this history makes it possible to understand the contemporary state of the Jesenicko, the settlement of the region and helps to clarify why and when some meteorological stations were established and closed.
