Abstract

AbstractReactions between silver nitrate and some heterocyclic thioamides in aqueous media have been investigated by potentiometric titration and electron micro cope studies. The products of these reactions are sparingly soluble crystalline pha cs, the compositions of which depend on the nature of the organic compound and also on the reaction conditions. The addition of silver nitrate to an aqueous solution containing thioamide and halide ions results, essentially, in the precipitation of the ilver halide and the silver organic compound as separate phases. Some evidence, however, indicates that silver compounds containing both thioamide and halide ions are formed under certain conditions.
