Abstract

PRELIMINARY 1 and supplemental 2 reports have been made on response to, and rationalization for, use of massive dose therapy of vitamin E combined with pantothenic acid derivatives in certain phases of lupus erythematosus — a disease in cutaneous lesions of which the common denominator is connective tissue. 3 The present study of results obtained in treatment of granuloma annulare reports favorable response to similar massive dose therapy in another disease entity characterized by collagenous degeneration. Materials used in this study * were essentially those used in treatment of certain phases of lupus erythematosus. 2 Rationalization for study of response to these agents in treatment of granuloma annulare is as follows: The etiology of granuloma annulare is not known.† Opinion remains divided regarding concept of a polyetiologic syndrome incriminating tuberculosis ‡ and rheumatoid arthritis,§ on basis of histologic findings, ‖
