Abstract

Sendang Duwur Mosque built by Sunan Sendang Duwur not only plays as a place for worship, but also as cultural space to preserve religious tradition and acculturation between Islamic culture and pre-Islamic tradition. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to describe and to analyze the functions of Sendang Duwur mosque as manifestation of cultural acculturation. This mosque has conducted various religious activities that reflect cultural acculturation between pre-Islamic and Islamic culture. This mosque conducted a bancaan (eating together) and art performance terbang jidor, rebana with reading shalawat and barzanji with Javanese tune. These activities are to commemorate Islamic great days. There are various traditional foods served at the bancaan ceremony as a form of selametan or wilujengan (thanksgiving) which emphasize harmony among people within societies. This plays as a main lement of each ceremony in the system of Javanese religion. In addition, people visiting mosque are for pilgrimage at Sendang Duwur tomb that aims to gain blessing and to follow the characters of Sunan. They hold selametan as well at the mosque for tasyakuran or praying to expect of safety from God.

Masjid sebagai Tempat Ibadah

Masjid Sunan Sendang Duwur setiap waktu salat ramai dikunjungi kaum muslimin dari berbagai penjuru Desa Sendang Duwur maupun Jawa Timur untuk menyambut panggilan azan dan menunaikan salat fardhu berjamaah lima waktu. Sejak masa Sunan Sendang Duwur hingga sekarang dibunyikan beduk (bedhug) dengan kentongan. Selain menunaikan salat lima waktu, para jemaah Masjid Sendang Duwur juga berzikir bermunajat kepada Allah memohonkan hajat dan ketenangan batin. Berzikir sebagai media komunikasi kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dengan melafalkan kalimat tauhid la ilaha illallah (Salim Azhar, wawancara [25-31] Mei 2015). Sebelumnya pada masa pra Islam para jamaah mencari ketenangan batin dengan sasmita atau samadi berdonga kepada Sang Mahakuasa. Mereka diajak ke masjid menunaikan salat atau sembahyang kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa ataupun beri’tikaf di dalam masjid dengan penuh kekhusyuan dan keikhlasan hati menghadirkan hati, jiwa,dan pikiran untuk mengharapkan kasih sayang dan keridhaan Allah untuk bermunajat memohon petunjuk ataupun ketenangan jiwa. Sehingga terjalin komunikasi dan Ma’rifatullah dengan Sang Maha Pencipta, hati senantiasa berzikir la ilaha illallah sepanjang hayat (Sutrisno, 2007:197-198)
