Abstract
The concept of "friendship" is an important phenomenon that reflects the cultural, social, and psychological aspects of interaction between people. Language plays a key role in expressing and perceiving friendship, while metaphors help to uncover the peculiarities of how this phenomenon is perceived in different cultures. This article examines the figurative characteristics of the concept of "friendship" in English and Kyrgyz languages. Research shows that in English, friendship is often associated with images such as "guiding star," "tree," "bridge," and "sun," which symbolize support, stability, and mutual understanding. For example, the metaphor "guiding star" highlights the importance of a friend who lights the way in difficult times, while the "tree" symbolizes the strength and longevity of the relationship. These images reflect important aspects of friendship, such as support, trust, and closeness. In the Kyrgyz language, friendship is perceived through images of reliability and selflessness, such as "joldosh" (companion), which emphasizes mutual support and assistance. In Kyrgyz culture, not only emotional but also physical help in difficult times is important, reflected in metaphors like "a friend like a brother" and "blood." Additionally, in the Kyrgyz language, friendship is associated with sincerity, respect, and the durability of relationships, expressed in phrases such as "I am ready to give my soul for a friend" ("dos үчүн жанымды да бергенге даярмын"). Thus, the concept of friendship in English and Kyrgyz highlights the importance of supportive and mutually helpful relationships, but reflects different cultural and social nuances.
