Abstract

Severe plastic deformation (SPD) of Ti-50.0 at.% Ni alloy was carried out using the multi-axial deformation MaxStrain module of Gleeble system at temperatures in 400 to 330 °C range with accumulated strain from e =4.6 to 9.5. One-hour post-deformation annealings (PDA) were carried out at the deformation temperature. Kinetics of martensitic transformations was studied by DSC method, and the structure features using X-ray diffractometry and TEM. The recovery strain was determined by a thermomechanical method. A mixed nanocrystalline and nanosubgrained structure with average grain/subgrain size below 100nm has been formed as a result of the SPD at 330 °C and remained after PDA. The resulting nanostructure provides an obvious advantage in the completely recoverable strain as compared to reference treatment.
