Abstract

Objective To explore the characteristics of highly cited papers in Chinese Journal of Diagnostics (Electronic Edition) from 2013 to 2019. Methods All articles published in the Chinese Journal of Diagnostics (Electronic Edition) from 2013 to 2019 were analyzed, using the method of limited citation frequency for defining the highly cited papers, using method of Bibliometrics to analyse the published time, the institution and area distribution of the first author, column, subject, funded articles and download frequency of the highly cited papers. Results There were a total of 438 valid papers, 304 of which were cited, accounting for 69.41%, and the total cited frequency was 1 642. Forty papers with highly cited frequency (cited frequency≥10 times) were cited for 855 times, accounting for 52.07% of the total cited frequency. All highly cited papers were published from 2013 to 2017, mainly in the form of special discussion (17/40, 42.50%) and clinical research (17/40, 42.50%). It mainly involved clinical medicine and psychiatry, at 52.50% (21/40) and 22.50% (9/40), among which the nervous system of clinical medicine published the most articles, at 17.50% (7/40). The first author was distributed in 13 provinces and autonomous regions, with Shandong being the largest, at 32.50%(13/40), and the institution were dominated by colleges and universities, at 67.50% (27/40). A total of 34 highly cited papers were funded by foundation projects (85.00%). The total downloaded number of highly cited papers was 19, 033 times, among which the maximum number of downloads was 2, 552 times. The top 10 papers with high downloads were mainly published in the form of special discussion (8 articles). Conclusions The earlier the paper appears in Chinese Journal of Diagnostics (Electronic Edition), the higher the paper is to be cited. Special discussion papers are more likely to be cited and downloaded, the psychiatric and neurologic fields of clinical medicine are areas of focus, and the quality of funded papers is generally better. The quality of the journal and its influence in the field of diagnostics can be further improved through accurate selection of papers, careful planning of topic selection, active tracking of thematic discussion articles on superiority, and cultivation of high-quality authors.
