Abstract
Experimental and theoretical investigations on the fatigue behaviour of steel hollow sections have been carried out in several countries during recent years. The results of these investigations were collected and evaluated in Karlsruhe. A design proposal for Eurocode 3, Part 9 “Fatigue” based on notch cases was worked out. This paper presents the draft of Eurocode 3, Part 9, and illustrates it by background information in the form of S/N curves with test results plotted for comparison. Furthermore, the paper gets down to the question of the slopes of the S/N curves which range from 3.0 to 5.0 depending on the actual notch cases. The paper concludes with examples of the calculation of different notch cases and the design of structural members on the basis of this draft standard.
