Abstract
Abstract Data are presented on the distribution of magnesium chloride between aqueous phases and solvents comprising various mixed ionic extractants involving equimolar mixtures of amines and carboxylic acids. Aliquat-336/acid-810 is shown to have promise for the extraction of magnesium chloride from bitterns. The co-extraction of sodium, calcium, sulphate and bromide ions is considered. The system is shown to be insensitive to changes in pH and temperature but the choice of diluent can have an appreciable effect.
