Abstract
This paper presents initial experimental results of a modified-Collins-cycle cryocooler designed for space cooling applications. A high efficiency and lightweight single-stage cryocooler design to provide 100 W of cooling at temperatures at 90 K is discussed. With multi-staging, cooling to 4 K is possible. A single-stage room-temperature floating piston-machine is experimentally demonstrated with helium as the working fluid. Cryocooler construction materials and control system methodologies are discussed.
