Abstract
Equilibrium oxygen pressures have been directly determined by tensimetric experiments at 1000°–1450°C over the composition range UO 2·00–UO 2·30. An invariant point has been found at 1123 ± 5°, at which the three solid phases UO 2+ x , U 4O 9 and UO 2·61 are in equilibrium. The U 4O 9 phase does not extend to compositions richer in oxygen than UO 2·25 in this temperature range. The tensimetric results are used to construct the relevant parts of the phase diagram and to calculate Δ G, Δ H and Δ S for the formation of all phases intermediate between UO 2 and U 3O 8 from UO 2·00.
