Abstract

Russia had started its influence on the South Caucasus from the 10th and 12th centuries. It had relations with Armenia coming from the 12th century. Russia gave a great importance to the church, as it gave significance to the characteristics of the local people. Russia gave a great significance to improve relations with Ecmiyadzin Patriarchate because it realized the strong ties between the Ecmiyadzin Gregorian Church and the Armenian people. Russia gave some privileges to this patriarchate for having control on Armenia and Armenian people and also benefiting from them on foreign relations. In this paper, developing process of the relation of Russia and Ecmiyadzin Patriarchate is going to be discussed and going to be explained how Russia used Ecmiyadzin Patriarchate according its political aims. <br>
