Abstract
The emanating power of barium stearate powder for actinon is >99 per cent for thin layers in air at atmospheric pressure and for ≅ 10 mg/cm 2 layers at reduced pressures (⩽7·5 mm Hg). The emanating power decreases with increasing pressure and with increasing thickness at atmospheric pressure. The method of preparation of the highly emanating barium stearate and two methods of measurement of the emanating power are described. Some preliminary results on gas sweeping of actinon and thoron from aqueous solution are also given.
