Abstract

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are seen as a strategic ally for education. Their daily use and their imminent development is a powerful reason to generate educational proposals that incorporate the tools they offer to students. This article analyzes how the emergence of ICTs in the 1980s has influenced the creation of a new type of society, the so-called information society, and more specifically within it, the impact they have had on educational changes and the growing trend toward learning. The main challenges that the information and communication technologies pose to the universities is the training of professionals for new jobs and continuous training. The achievement of this social aspiration is based on a completely new educational paradigm, which can bring many advantages to education. The keys to changing teaching methodology will lie in how these new media are used. Similarly, the social factors that affect, both positively and negatively, the use of these technologies in the university context are analyzed.
