Abstract

Abstract Scientific research needs to be approached on philosophical and reflective bases that allow the integral scientific development. The aim of this study is to make known the role of philosophy in the development and processes of scientific research. Philosophy is the fundamental basis for the development of science. Methodology: argumentative, based on a literary analysis of journals indexed in recognized research databases, with the purpose of substantiating argumentative positions of different authors in order to reach a deep understanding of the subject. Result: there is no scientific problem that does not raise a philosophical dilemma, nor philosophical controversy that can be approached with hope of success if it is not by adopting a critical attitude. Conclusion: rationalism, empiricism, paradigmatic changes and metaphysics should be taken into account as part of the philosophical roles that can contribute with important postulates to the development of research and science.
