Abstract

We prove that the effect of the transverse polarization of the beams in any reaction in electron-positron collisions disappear after averaging over the azimuthal angle at high energies in the standard model of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions to any order in perturbation theory. This can also be shown for a wide class of gauge models. A nonvanishing effect remains after averaging if there exist scalar particles strongly coupled to electrons. Specifically, in the case where a scalar resonance is formed in e +e − collisions, its parity can be determined using the transverse polarization of the beams.
