Abstract
A new weak interaction due to scalar-boson exchange is proposed in the standard SU(4) four-quark model of weak, electromagnetic, and strong interactions. This interaction, which is added to the conventional vector-exchange weak interaction, is assumed to dominate in nonleptonic decays. It transforms like a pentadecimet component of SU(4), thus leading to strict strangeness conservation for charm-changing processes and a pure octet spurion for strangeness-changing processes. All of the desirable features built into the original model, such as suppression of $\ensuremath{\Delta}S=2$ transitions, can be preserved even after inclusion of the new interaction.
