Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of glycerol fructose and mannitol on the hemorheological propertes of patients with cerebral infarction, and to study the mechanisms by which they reduce the elevated in-tracranial pressure of the patients. Methods In the prospective clinical study, the patients were divided ran-domly into two groups, treated with glycerol fructose and mannitol respectively, and the changes of hemorheologi-cal indexes in the two groups were compared with each other. Results After the treatments the hemorheological indexes in glycerol fructose group (such as blood sedimentation, hematocrit, blood viscosity, blood reduction vis-cosity, plasma viscosity, and erythroeyte aggregation index) were lower than that in mannitol group indicating better hemorheological condition. Conclusion As compared with mannitol, glycerol fructose may have better therapeutic effects in arresting brain edema, reducing the intracranial pressure and ameliorating microcirculation following cerebral infarction, by improving the hemorheological condition of patients.
