Abstract

In this study, we have explored the crystallographic structure and optical behavior of Sr and Fe ion co-doping Y0.5Sr0.5Cr1-xFexO3 (x = 0, 0.25). We successfully synthesized both samples via the conventional solid-state reaction method. From the X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra of Y0.5Sr0.5Cr1-xFexO3 (x = 0, 0.25) samples, we have found that both samples are well crystalline and having Pbnm space group which is indexed in the orthorhombic structure. Minor presence of a secondary phase that corresponds to monoclinic SrCrO4 (space group P121/n1) is also observed in the spectra. In the Y0.5Sr0.5CrO3 sample, the Raman scattering lines at approximately 151, 305, 460, and 682 cm−1 were detected during our observations. With the doping of Fe ions, the modes shift towards lower wave numbers. Therefore, red shift is observed in the prepared ceramic samples. The bandgap energy of Y0.5Sr0.5CrO3 is ∼ 3.07 eV and with doping of the Fe ion, it reduces to 2.24 eV.
