Abstract

This chapter reviews an early control textbook in Spain. The first book published in Spanish on what is known today as control engineering is Teoría de los Servomecanismos (Servomechanism Theory) by Antonio Colino. It is worth noting that this book was published in 1950, just a few years after the first books on the subject of automatic control came out in English. Even today, the index of the book comprises the program for an introductory course on the theory of automatic control of linear systems—specifically, on the classic methods based on the study in the frequency domain—and it includes the typical subjects for such a course: transfer functions and their graphic representations, stability criteria, and other such topics. The book was used as a textbook and from it the Spanish engineers of the 1950s learned the fundamentals of automatic control.
