Abstract

A simple method is described for the determination of fluoride and chloride in waste gases of a municipal incinerator. Because of the high temperature and the reactivity of the stack gases, sampling was performed with teflon materials. After absorption the gases were analysed by conventional methods, i.e. ion-specific electrode for fluorides and potentiometric titration for chlorides. Measurement of the flue gas characteristics and velocities allowed the calculation of total emission rates and emission factors based on actual refuse burning rates. An evaluation of the measured emission is given by comparison with an emission standard.
