Abstract

A novel magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna in W-band based on SIW has been proposed and demonstrated in this article. This antenna is composed of an H-shaped slot which acts as magneto dipole and four patches with corner cut which act as electric dipoles. It retains broadband characters of the ME dipole antenna while also shows additional low transmission loss features of the SIW feed structure. A broad bandwidth covering 87.5-110 GHz with voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2 is achieved and a radiation gain of 8.2 dB with a variation less than 0.25 dB is obtained. A low backward radiation is realized and a low cross-polarization is also achieved. What's more, a wide scanning performance in H-plane is also observed. We are convinced that our proposed ME dipole antenna has potential application in areas such as mmW wide angle scanning radar and 5G wireless communication in the future.
