Abstract
AbstractVarious antennas have been introduced to meet the requirements of 5G communication systems, among which the magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna is one of the relatively new designs. It contains a pair of dipoles, one electric and one magnetic, which are excited simultaneously. The ME dipole antenna has interesting characteristics as it can provide a stable unidirectional radiation pattern with low back radiation and cross-polarization levels and a stable gain across the antenna operating frequency band. In this chapter, an overview of the 5G ME dipole antenna is presented. Then, the theory of ME dipole antenna is explored, which leads to the understanding of its operation mechanism. Finally, it follows several studies on 5G ME dipole antennas, including substrate integrated designs, bandwidth widening techniques and circularly polarized and dual-polarized designs.KeywordsMagnetoelectric dipole antennaPlanar dipoleShort circuited quarter-wave patch antennaSubstrate integrated designsCircularly polarized structuresWideband antennaDual linearly polarized
