Abstract

A Pierce type convergent electron gun with coaxial compact geometry has been designed and developed for a broadband gain and phase matched miniature helix Travelling Wave Tube. For the design of above gun, synthesis approach particularly for the estimation of anode hole aperture has been modified and used, which resulted in closer agreement with experimental value of the same parameter. A theoretical and experimental study regarding the effects of beam forming electrode (BFE) negative bias on beam optics has been discussed. Criticalities Involved in the development of such a compact miniature electron gun meeting the requirement of tube to tube gain and phase matching have been discussed along with the techniques to overcome the same.
