Abstract

An electron gun with dual anodes has been designed for a Ku-band 140 W space TWT. The initial gun geometry based on the design parameters such as beam voltage (5.8 V), beam current (90 mA), waist radius (0.34 mA) and emission current density (1.0 A/cm/sup 2/) has been synthesized. The gun geometry is worked out with beam forming electrode (BFE) and anodes. The gun geometry has been optimized using Hermannsfeldt's gun simulation code E-GUN for the desired beam flow and beam current. A comparison between synthesis and simulated results for the electron gun has been analysed.
