Abstract

Regenerative braking is an energy recapture mechanism allows slow down a machine or vehicle by converting the kinetic energy into other useful energy and to be used stored until required. Regenerative braking systems help obtain more efficiency from a vehicle. Other than of converting kinetic energy to thermal energy through friction braking, to convert fraction of its kinetic energy to illuminate the braking lights. This paper highlights two major objectives along with a few minor ones. Firstly, to increase the overall efficiency of automobiles by utilizing the energy this would normally be lost as friction (between the brake shoes and the wheel) i.e. intended to light up the brake lights at the rear end of the car, thereby reducing the load which the car’s battery would have to bear. Secondly, research led to believe that the brake lights which are installed in cars nowadays are only indicative of the fact that the driver of the car in question has applied brakes, i.e., lights light up as soon as the brakes are applied. Through this work we plan to develop a novel brake lighting mechanism that will also be indicative of the intensity of braking. In automobile lighting mechanism the brake light lights up in steps depending on the pressure applied on the brakes. The proposed design will be a promising method of lighting system which will help the roads a bit more safe.
