Descriptions of two new Benthomangelia Thiele, 1925 from the Pacific, with notes on the status of Marshallena gracilispira A. W. B. Powell, 1969 and Surcula celebensis Schepman, 1913 (Neogastropoda: Conoidea: Mangeliidae)

Abstract

Benthomangelia mercatii n. sp. and Benthomangelia valentinae n. sp., members of the Mangeliidae family from the Pacific Ocean, are described based on their morphological features. The new taxa can be morphologically differentiated from other species currently placed in the genus Benthomangelia. Marshallena gracilispira A. W. B. Powell, 1969 is regarded as a junior synonym of Benthomangelia trophonoidea (Schepman, 1913), while Surcula celebensis Schepman, 1913 is transferred to the genus Paradrillia Makiyama, 1940 of Horaiclavidae Bouchet, Kantor, Sysoev & Puillandre, 2011.
