Abstract

The taxa of the Mediterranean Pliocene Eratoidae are illustrated and discussed. Previously published studies from the Zanclean of Estepona, South Spain are partly revised based on the type specimens. Many of the latter are illustrated by photos for the first time and are discussed with additional material. The intraspecific variation is represented by additional figures and by tabulations of measurements, based especially on material from the “Spungone” area of Romagna Northern Italy. Erato immanis n. sp. is described from the Pliocene of Rhodes, Greece and Erato falsemarginella n. sp. from the Piacenzian of Castell’Arquato, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
