Abstract
This conceptual paper integrates key literature on the Biopsychosocial-Spiritual (BPSS) changes experienced by those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and the relational implications for their partner-caregivers. It highlights systemic and post-modern therapeutic approaches for couples affected by PD, focusing on the BPSS model, Satir-Experiential Family Therapy, and Symbolic-Experiential Family Therapy. An illness-focused literature review evaluates their usefulness and promising applications. The case vignette and model-based table presented offers intervention choices, including previously and newly proposed models. This paper aims to support therapists in fostering reconnection and relational satisfaction among PD-affected couples, helping them transcend the hurdles posed by this diagnosis.
