Abstract
It is based on the need to analyze the scope of transaction costs (TC) in the development and use of instruments in environmental policies, as well as their effects on social welfare. Investigating the causes of TK and their dimensions is essential for the design, selection and evaluation of environmental policies. Studying the influence of TK throughout the development, implementation and administration of environmental policies, as well as their distribution among different stakeholders, provides a deeper understanding to environmental policymakers, enabling them to more efficiently manage environmental resources and public goods. Lack of knowledge about TK limits the information available to environmental policy decision-makers, affecting their ability to address ex ante and ex post issues in relation to environmental projects.
