Abstract
This article analyzes the relationship of competition and cooperation between the theme park and tour operators in the context of Hong Kong Disneyland and addresses the problem of choosing a particular cooperation pattern. Specifically, we recommend two options for cooperation for the theme park and the tour operator: (a) direct purchase mode (DPM): the tour operators purchase tickets directly from the theme park at the beginning of the cooperation period; (b) ticket exchange voucher mode (TEVM): the tour operator can receive ticket exchange vouchers rather than tickets by paying a deposit to the theme park at the beginning of the cooperation period. A ticket exchange voucher is an option that can be executed or withdrawn. Based on our observations of the industry, we model the two options described above as a decentralized decision-making system with the theme park being the Stackelberg leader. In addition, a coordination mechanism is designed under which the tourism supply chain profit is attained at the same level as in the centrally coordinated system.
