Abstract
Global challenges group the long-established traditional classification: environmental, domestic, geopolitical, social, technological. In our opinion, calls should play a decisive role in this list. Economic growth is one of the goals of sustainable development of countries, the balance of which is possible with three main components: economic growth, social responsibility and environmental balance. Kazakhstan faces significant barriers to economic stability and sustainable development. The article, based on the achievements of domestic science, the main provisions of strategic and program documents of the state, archival and statistical data, examines the socio-economic consequences of an environmental disaster as a barrier to economic stability and sustainable development of the country.
