Abstract
Computation of Fresnel diffraction is indispensable in numerous areas of optics and digital holography. This computation can sometimes be very large as well as time consuming. This paper revolves around a novel attempt to compute Fresnel diffraction using VHDL (Very High Speed Integrated circuit Hardware Description Language). This can prove to be an efficient new methodology to compute Fresnel diffraction in very less time. In this paper, a VHDL implementation of the circuitry for computation of Fresnel kernel is presented. The VHDL code has been simulated using ModelSim-Altera6.3g (QuartusII-8.1) software. Also the performance of the circuitry has been verified by downloading it in FPGA Spartan-3 kit. Xilinx ISE-8.2i VHDL compiler has been used to download the VHDL code in FPGA Spartan-3 kit. Keywords—Fresnel Diffraction, VHDL, Modelsim, FPGA.
